DroneEye

DroneEye is a drone detection platform that combines computer vision, machine learning, LiDAR-based depth perception, and a graphical interface to identify drones and estimate their Cartesian coordinates.

Problem

Drone detection requires recognizing small moving aerial targets and translating visual detections into useful spatial information. DroneEye focuses on making that output readable through a practical interface.

Approach

The system uses a custom-trained machine-learning model for drone detection and LiDAR for depth perception. Detected targets are processed into Cartesian coordinates for display through a user-facing graphical interface.

Recognition

DroneEye received the 2026 Research Day People's Choice Award from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Delaware.
